Privacy Policy
Sides asks everyone the same everyday question, like "cats or dogs?", once a day. We collect only what the game needs to work. We do not sell your data, we do not show ads, and we do not ask for your email, phone number or real name.
Who we are
Sides is operated by Kerpie, based in Turkey (the "data controller"). You can reach us at info@kerpie.com.
What we collect
- An anonymous account. When you first open Sides, a random account identifier is created for your browser or device. There is no email or password.
- Your profile. The username you choose, the country you pick, and, if you choose to give them, your age and your gender. Age and gender are optional and are never shown to other people.
- Your activity. Your answer to each daily question, your answers to past questions you choose to answer, your streaks and titles, items you unlock, and your friend requests and friendships.
- Usage events. Simple records of actions in the app, for example "app opened", "vote cast" or "tab viewed", with the date, whether you use the web or mobile version, and sometimes a detail of the action, such as the side you picked or the country you chose when you signed up. We use these to understand which features work.
- Technical data. Our hosting providers receive your IP address and basic browser information when your device connects to them, as with any website.
Sides also stores a few small items in your browser's local storage (for example your username and the date of your last vote) so the app opens quickly. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not use third-party analytics services.
What other people can see
- On your profile card and in search: your username, country and flag, chosen title and the date you joined.
- In the daily feed: that you voted today, but not your answer.
- Your friends: your answer to today's question once they have answered it themselves, your answers on past days since you became friends, and your shared streak. People can find you by username to send a friend request; nothing is shared until you accept.
- Your friends may also see how often the two of you picked the same answer (rounded to 5%), once you have at least 3 voting days in common. Nobody else sees this, and nobody sees your individual answers this way.
- Your Opinion DNA and your answers to past questions are visible only to you, not even to your friends. If you share your DNA card yourself, the card shows your username, your top countries and their percentages.
- Daily results are shown only as totals: worldwide, by country, by age group and by gender. A group is shown only once it has at least 10 votes, and we hide one more group when needed so that what remains hidden is never just a few people.
Opinion DNA
Opinion DNA compares your answers with each country's published results for the same days and shows which countries pick most like you. It uses only the country totals that are already public in the daily results, where a country appears only once it has at least 10 votes. Your answers to past questions never change any daily result.
What we don't ask
Daily questions are about everyday tastes and habits. We do not ask about politics, religion, health or sexuality.
Why we use it
We use this information to run the game: to count votes, calculate streaks and results, show your friends' answers, calculate your Opinion DNA, prevent cheating and abuse, and improve the app. Our legal basis is providing the service you asked for and our legitimate interest in keeping it fair and working. Age and gender, if you give them, are used only in these anonymous totals.
Who processes it for us
- Supabase stores the database and handles the anonymous accounts.
- Vercel hosts the website.
Their servers may be located outside Türkiye and outside the European Union, so using Sides means your information is transferred abroad. These transfers are necessary to provide the service you asked for, and they rely on our providers' data processing agreements, which include standard contractual clauses and other recognized safeguards. Our providers process the data only to provide their services to us.
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time in the app: open your profile and tap delete account at the bottom. This permanently deletes your profile, votes, answers to past questions, friendships and usage events. So that past daily results do not change, votes that were already counted are kept only as anonymous totals (the date, the answer, the country, and the age group and gender if you gave them), with nothing that links them to you. Answers to past questions are deleted completely, since they are never part of the daily results.
Your account lives on your device
Because accounts are anonymous, your account is tied to your browser or device. If you clear your browser data or reinstall the app, you may lose access to it, and we cannot restore it without a way to identify you.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under Turkey's Personal Data Protection Law (KVKK, Law No. 6698) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you can ask us to tell you what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop using it. You can delete your account yourself in the app at any time. For anything else, email info@kerpie.com with your username. We will reply within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
Sides is not meant for children under 13. If you are under the age required to consent to data use in your country, you need permission from a parent or guardian. If we learn that a child under 13 has an account, we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. If the change is significant, we will tell you in the app.
